The speaker :
Lyle Young, CSB, Ottawa, Canada
Lyle Young learned about Christian Science as a university student through a Christian Science Organization on campus. Aware of the world's need for healing, eager to participate in developing solutions to humanity's challenges, and feeling that Christian Science offered the spiritual tools to be able to pray effectively and find answers, Mr. Young began using a newspaper each week to pray about the problems described in the articles it contained. Very quickly, he realised that doing this only once a week was far from enough! He first booked two, then three nights a week to pray for others and for the world. Eventually he gave up his university studies to dedicate himself full time to helping others through prayer as a Christian Science practitioner.
In addition to his public ministry of healing, Lyle Young is also a licensed Christian Science teacher to help others to reliably practice this healing system as well. He has served The Church of Christ, Scientist (The Mother Church) in many ways, including the following: as a Publications Committee for Canada, linking with legislative bodies and the media; as the First Reader of The Mother Church, conducting many weekly church services in English and Spanish; as a member of the Christian Science Conference Council, giving lectures and workshops in 34 different countries; as a member of the Christian Science Board of Directors, the Church's management board; as Secretary of The Mother Church; and by frequent contributions to the magazines published by the Christian Science Publishing Society.
It is a broad and deep love that motivates Mr. Young: a love for God, a love of the ideas contained in the Bible and in the writings of Mary Baker Eddy, and a love for all mankind. This love and affection for humanity is expressed through a keen interest in different cultures, languages, history, the arts and sports. Mr. Young runs and swims regularly, and bikes in all weathers. The latter activity is also linked to his commitment to the environment.
Lyle Young lives in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Having served as Secretary-Treasurer of the Ontario Interfaith Council on Spiritual and Religious Care for five years, he is familiar with a wide variety of expressions of faith, both Christian and non-Christian.
The Conference: Christian Science - A Clearer Vision of Ourselves
Who are we really? You and me, and all of humanity? the health, harmony, and joy we experience in life depend on our answer to this question. To the extent that we accept our identity as purely spiritual - knowing that each of us shines, now and forever, as a unique expression of the Innate Love - we experience healing. The result is well-being, opportunity, spiritual progress, and the highest sense of joy.
